Day Camp
If
you want the very best for your four legged friend and to have them stay as
youthful as possible, the Coventry
Day Camp is where you need to take your dog! If you want your pet’s
spirit to be enriched and encouraged to grow and explore safely, the Coventry Day Camp is where
your pet needs to be! If your best friend is mischievous and
gets into trouble when you’re not around, the Coventry Day Camp is where your best friend
needs to be to have all their energy channeled into positive directions without
any loss in their spirit! After all, they are only with us for such
a short length of time. Make it memorable and enriching for them in
a very positive environment. Bob Johnson, and yellow lab, Sophie, clients
for over 10 years, now living in New Hampshire.
Day Camp
Coventry was the first to offer day camp for dogs in Howard County, and we’ve
taken excellent care of our clients’ dogs since 1995. Coventry has
expanded 5 times since our start here in 1991. We now have almost 12000 sf, and
a few thousand sf outdoors, fenced. We are not associated with any other
business. We are a Maryland Corporation, we are not a franchise. Today we
remain the first day camp you should consider, and here’s why:
Staff Expertise We understand there’s a lot more to
taking care of your dogs than just giving them a place to play. We provide
full-time, in-person supervision by staff members trained in
canine behavior and Red Cross pet first aid. As in the case of any
profession, our staff is required to renew and extend their skills regularly.
State-of-the-Art Facility We offer safe, sanitary play
spaces with padded floors, fenced relief areas, top-of-the-line puppy and dog
toys and equipment. We use enzymes on accidents, steam cleaning in the
kennel and a huge floor cleaner (our ‘zamboni’) scrubs all the rubber matting
throughout! We teach our clients to use the non-porous surface for potty.
This surface is highly cleanable and does not harbor disease or parasites.
Safe for Your Pet All dogs must pass an evaluation and
have required vaccinations. We do not accept dogs that are dangerous to
other dogs. We segregate play groups for puppies, small dogs and the
hopelessly rowdy! We keep older dogs by our sides to sit back and be
loved.
Behavior Reinforcement We offer much more than a
babysitting service. We are animal behavior specialists,
so we reinforce attention and coming when called, bite inhibition, appropriate
interactions with dogs and humans and other good manners. We interact with
the dogs to change behavior and although we have rules and boundaries, we don’t
use punishment.
Puppy Central We accept pups 10 weeks and older.
We provide supervised socialization and play. You’ll pick up a relaxed,
happy pup who is continually socialized and has spent time on improving his
manners as well as playing!
Convenience
Check your dog in from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., pick up by 7:00 p.m., come once a
month or every day, including Saturday and Sunday. We accept same day
reservations, offer discounts for frequent campers, and we’re near Routes 32,
29, 100 and 175.
Fitness
Your dog gets lots of great exercise which contributes to good health and
reduces undesirable behaviors. It can take several visits for
dogs that have been sedentary, or who are overweight to take full advantage of
our facility! We let the dog tell us when he is ready to do more.
Dogs are offered rest as they need it.
Q. What kinds of dogs benefit from day camp?
A. Dogs that are not aggressive to other dogs or humans, but need
or enjoy socialization. Dogs that have long days alone at home. Dogs
with lots of energy to burn. Dogs that crave attention and loving care
when their owners can’t give it.
Q. If I don’t work all day, why would I bring my dog to
day camp?
A. If you’re planning household projects and can’t have your pet
underfoot, you’re trying to sell your house, have a new baby or guests with
allergies. Or you might just want to provide a safe, loving place for your
pet to exercise with other dogs.
Also, we provide exercise when it is too hot or too cold for many
humans to venture out.
Q. What if my dog is on a special diet or takes
medication?
A. If you provide the supplies, we’ll be glad to take care of
your dog’s special needs. We need to be advised of all meds your dog is taking
as many drugs can affect your dog’s behavior.
One of our greatest compliments is not only the owners who bring their dogs
weekly for 10-12 years,. but former staff members bring their dogs here-I so
appreciate the trust people have in us. Ruth Chase, owner.

Our motto is, “A tired dog is a happy dog.” Many
dogs are under exercised due to their owners’ long hours and busy schedules.
And that can lead to trouble.
The well-exercised dog is much more manageable, well behaved, healthier
and easier to live with at the end of the day.
Here’s what a typical day at Coventry Day Camp is like:
6:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
Check in and morning meditation. It’s a nice time to relax, digest
breakfast and greet old friends. We listen to “Song for Dogs or some music
in the K9 top ten.
8:30 a.m. Let the games
begin. Time to catch up on the news and smells with old
pals and be introduced to new dogs. Begin the gym session, when camp counselors
show campers how to go over the jumps, balance on long ramps, run through the
tunnel and lie on the platforms OR just have a grand runabout in the 5000sf
room.
10:00 a.m. Daily meeting of the
Canine Wrestling Foundation (CWF) As always, closely supervised
by the refs.
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Light snack and nap time. The surviving staff members really need
a rest by now.
1:00 p.m. Obedience 101
– but it’s fun. We practice come when called, sit and down stay and some
targeting. We discourage jumping up. And for dogs with lots of training, we
practice hand signals and longer stays in Obedience 201. We find that working
with dogs and communicating with them works way better than
yelling or squirting or jerking!
2:30 p.m. Buddy time.
Free play is supervised, but not structured, with toys and friends. CWF
reconvenes.
4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Chill out and cool down. Listen to classical music and say good-bye to
friends as they’re picked up. Have to pick up a bit later? No
problem;
pick up by 6:30=$2.50, pick up by 7:00=$5.00. Please call ahead to
let us know.
Note: Dogs have free access to water and “rest rooms” all day.
Call or email us and make an appointment for your dog’s
evaluation.
The more you bring your dog within a one-week period, the less you pay
per day – provided you make your payment the first day of the week you come.
And we give a 15 percent discount for a second dog from the same household
brought on the same day.
Check our rates against others-as low as $21 per day!

Weekend Day Camp Rates

7:30-8:30 a.m., check out between
5:00
and 6:00p.m.
$34. Multiple dog discounts apply. Half day (pick up or drop off at
noon) is $17.
Later Pick-up Rates
These charges are in addition to the day camp fee. You may pick
your dog up by 6:30 for a charge of $2.50.
He may stay until 7:00 for an additional $5.00.
Payment
We only accept payment for the applicable day camp fee in the morning.
Checkout time at the end of the day is very busy, and we want to send you home
with your dog quickly and efficiently. Payments must be made by cash or
check. If you prepaid and find you can’t attend that day, call us no later than 7:30 a.m. that morning, and we will
issue you a credit.
- Drop off/Pick Up Morning drop-off time
is 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Pick-up
time is between 4:00
p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Early
pick-up can be arranged, but the full day rate is applied. (See info above
on later pick-ups)
- Before you come You must fill out an
application, provide proof of current rabies, distemper and bordetella
shots and schedule an evaluation appointment before
you can bring your dog to day camp. Male dogs older than six months must
be neutered. We are most willing to accept advice of your
dog’s doctor in regards to special circumstances regarding shots.
- Evaluations take approximately 30 to 45 minutes and
cost $20 at the time of evaluation (cash or check only). Dogs out of camp
for more than six months must be re-evaluated prior to returning.
- Dog manners In order to ensure the
safety of our campers and our staff, we require that all campers be
friendly dogs. Aggression is not acceptable. We reserve the
right not to allow dogs to return if they present the following problems while
they’re with us: excessive barking or guarding problems.
- Camp uniforms Your dog will run ‘naked’ while at
Coventry. We feel collars are too dangerous.
We don’t have difficulty identifying your dog, because we spend all day with
them, of course we know who they are!!
- Visitors You are always welcome to
visit Coventry and see your dog in camp. We
often videotape camp and play the tape during evening pick-up time. We
prefer people watching and interacting with your dogs, not cameras!
- Closings If day camp is closed due to
inclement weather, we will put a message on our answering machine by
6:00 a.m. In general, because we are here for boarding
24/7 we are generally open, BUT-do double check to make sure.
